The Suzuki Grand Vitara is a small SUV developed by Suzuki; a famous Japanese automaker.
First Generation (2002-2004)
The 1st generation Grand Vitara was a 4-door SUV, which was a bit pricier, powerful, and larger.
In 2002, it received a facelift, and within couple of years time, it underwent another change in 2004 too. In North America, a revised edition was traded by General Motors under the label Chevrolet Tracker.
The Chevrolet Tracker was traded as Chevrolet Grand Vitara in Latin America. In India, it was introduced as Maruti Suzuki.
In 2001, the Suzuki Grand Vitara came as a traditional 2.0 Liter 4WD version in New Zealand.
Second Generation (2005-Present)
In 2005, the Grand Vitara was substituted with some components and developed on the GM Theta platform. Considerably, it used a longitudinally-mounted engine and the car was designed with rear wheel drive configuration. The car stood on a 103.9 in (2639 mm) wheelbase.
The traditional chassis is a five-door edition, but in most countries it is available as a three-door version known as the “Vitara”. The traditional gasoline engine for the five door edition is a redesigned J20A; and a muscular choice is the Suzuki H engine H27A engine.
The 2001 previous models were installed with Mazda’s type RF engine, with next modules installed with a turbo diesel engine. The only available engine for the three-door edition was the M16A.
2008 Grand Vitara
In the second half of 2008, the Suzuki Grand Vitara got a facelift and 2 new engines. It had a 2.4L in-line four-cylinder engine that produced
• 225 N-m (166 lb-ft) of torque and
• 122 kW (166 PS; 164 hp) of power.
At that time, the V6 engine was the only provided as the flagship prestige model that could produce
• 284 N-m (209 lb-ft) of torque and
• 165 kW (224 PS; 221 hp) of power.
With the inclusion of VVT on both engines, the fuel economy was improved considerably. Also, the 1.9 L Turbo-Diesel engines underwent technological changes, resulting in upgraded fuel economy.
Safety was improved with standard traction control and air bags. On all models, a four-wheel drive system was available. It was featured with a lockable central differential with low ratio gears too.
The present 2010 Grand Vitara model is very sophisticated and provided with plenty of advanced features and technologies.
